The Carleton Conservatives are holding a Delegate Selection Meeting (DSM) on Jan 14th!

For those who might not know, the convention for the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario (PCPO) & the Ontario Progressive Conservative Campus Association (OPCCA) will be held on February 10th 2012.

As part of our responsibilities as a campus club, the Carleton Conservatives elect and send delegates to both PC & OPCCA meetings. The club does this so that we may participate in party procedure and the direction of policy.

For the Feb 10th convention, the Carleton Conservatives will elect 5 delegates and 5 alternates for the PCPO Convention, and a further 10 delegates and 10 alternates for the OPCCA AGM.

Our DSM will be held in the Senate room, 608 Robertson Hall on Jan 14th 2012 @ 5:00 pm .

The Delegate Selection Meeting is free to attend but there IS a cost to attend the PC convention in February:

  • Student Delegate/Alternate – $99.00
  • Student Member Non-Delegate – $99.00

CUSA Referendum Question:

It is probably safe to assume that by now, the vast majority of you have heard about the CUSA referendum question. For those who haven’t, the gist of the issue is this: the CUSA executive has put forward a resolution, the language of which will target, and in some cases ban, Conservative groups (like us!), gun-safety, pro-life, and pro-Israel groups on campus.

This resolution is an infringement of our ability to express our political and social views, the most basic rights we enjoy as students. This abuse of power by CUSA is appalling and cannot be allowed to pass.

The time for action is nigh.

This Saturday Jan 14th we will be discussing our plans to prevent this act of tyranny from going forward. For more information about the CUSA referendum, consult our page here or you can find the full text of the referendum here.

Chris Crawford and Larry Malloy will be at this Saturday’s Delegate Selection Meeting (DSM)

The Carleton Conservatives are proud to announce that both candidates for the position of Eastern Regional Vice-President for the PC party will be speaking at our DSM. Both Candidates will have 3-5 min to talk about their campaign and will then take questions from students. This is a great opportunity to learn about the issues facing Eastern Ontario and we look forward to having them speak!

Conservative Party of Canada National Outreach Coordinator Laura Kurkimaki will be speaking at this Saturday’s DSM regarding the 2012 Conservative Party Internship Program.

Yes, it’s that time of year again: Internship Application Time!

For those who might not know, every year the Conservative Party of Canada holds an internship program for students and young people who are interested in gaining experience in the world of politics.

Successful applicants are placed in government ministries (Defense, PMO, Transport, etc.) as political interns for the summer. As interns, students can expect a once in a lifetime experience working side-by-side with government staffers.

Many interns have gone on to have successful careers in all levels of government. As a former intern myself I can tell you that the experience is second to none.

Below are links to the application forms and FAQ pages.

Hashem Hamdy will be addressing the Carleton Conservatives regarding Israeli Apartheid week.

The Carleton Conservatives have a long history as staunch supporters of the state of Israel.

As part of our effort on campus we hold joint events with the Israeli Awareness Committee (IAC) during Israeli apartheid week; this year will be no different. We look forward to Hashem giving us a peak into what events will be taking place this year.

Hope to see you all there!

OPCCA presidential candidate and Richard Ciano supporter, Ian Merkley will be speaking to students this Saturday

As part of our commitment to ensuring students make an informed decision when voting as delegates, we have invited Ian Merkley to speak at our DSM this Saturday!

We look forward to hearing about his plans for OPCCA and why students should support Richard Ciano for President of the PC party.
