The Carleton Campus Conservative executive is tasked with making sure that the club runs effectively and smoothly, and is comprised of the president and five Directors at Large, each of whom is given a portfolio. The president may also designate two additional Directors at Large, including a First-Year Representative. In this double-header year, the CCC executive was crucial in rallying the Carleton base and helping the Conservative Party of Canada attain its first majority since the Progressive Conservative/Canadian Alliance merger.
Tristan McLaughlin (President) is the current president of the Carleton Conservatives. A fourth-year political science and law student, Tristan’s first priority upon attending Carleton was to get involved with the club. Growing up in Hamilton, Ontario, Tristan was less-than-exposed to Conservative politics while growing up. However, by building relationships within the Carleton Conservatives, Tristan has strengthened an appreciation for the Conservative message of low taxes and personal responsibility.
In the summer of 2010, Tristan was accepted into the Conservative Party of Canada Internship Program, for the Office of Tony Clement, Minister of Industry (now President of the Treasury Board). He continued to work for Minister Clement after the internship concluded.
As president, his first commitment is to ensure a united campus club. With the threat of a provincial election all but looming, Tristan would be honoured to have you on our team.
Patrick Osland (VP/Communications Director) is a fourth-year Political Science student who was born and raised in Ottawa. He is seasoned in public affairs and Canadian political organization, having worked with all three levels of government. During the school year, he works for the Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism.
With a big year coming up, Patrick is looking forward to spreading the conservative voice on campus. With an abiding love for the likes of economist Milton Friedman, Patrick is always ready to defend economic liberalism and Conservative policy.
Chris Tomalty (Administrative Director) is a third-year student studying Public Affairs and Policy Management with a Specialization in International Studies and a minor in Economics. Formerly the IT Director and First-Year Representative in the 2010-2011 school year and the Finance Director in 2011-2012, Chris has been active with the Campus Conservatives and the Conservative Party, volunteering in the office of MP Nina Grewal (Fleetwood-Port Kells, BC) and on the Alicia Gordon campaign in his home of Kingston and the Islands.
Chris hopes to bring his experience in IT, design, and politics to the table while working with the conservative youth movement. After working for Minister Bev Oda and Nina Grewal, he is spending his summer in the Prime Minister’s Office.
Ashley Scorpio (Membership and Outreach Director) is a third year Arts student at Carleton University while working full-time on Parliament Hill as the Executive and Legislative Assistant to the Member of Parliament for South Shore-St. Margaret’s and the Parliamentary Secretary of International Trade for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and for the Atlantic Gateway.
In the past four years, Ashley has worked for the Prime Minister as well as for several other Conservative Members of Parliament. Ashley is also active politically in Ontario; she worked on the Tim Hudak Leadership Campaign as the Ottawa Regional Organizer and has volunteered on several local campaigns as well as served on Ottawa Centre’s EDA.
On campus Ashley spent this past year serving as the CUSA Councilor for Special Students. Aside from that she has been on the Executive of the Firearms Association of Carleton University for the past two years and counting as well as the Vice President of the Love of Liberty Society. An active pro-Israel advocate Ashley has been a CAMERA and CJPAC Fellow as well as held positions on the executive boards of the Ottawa Israel Awareness Committee and the Jewish Students Association. She is currently on the board of Blue Star, a pro-Israel “hasbaratising” firm based in San Francisco.
Ashley is thrilled to spend this year working as the Director of Membership and Outreach for the Carleton Conservatives.”
Brandon Fick (Finance Director) is a third-year Political Science and Economics student. He grew up in the heart of Canadian Conservatism, Calgary, before moving to Ottawa in 2010 to pursue his studies. He was heavily involved in the 2011 Federal Election, working to re-elect Diane Ablonczy and Pierre Lemieux, and helping Elie Salibi’s Ottawa South campaign give David McGuinty a run for his money. He currently works the department of Parliamentary Affairs in the Office of the Prime Minister, and loves a good political debate almost as much as his Green Bay Packers. Brandon has a passion for federal politics and is looking forward to working for students on campus to make this coming year as memorable as the last.
Andrej Litvinjenko (Events Director) graduated Nipissing University for Political Science and History, he is currently at Carleton finishing his Masters of Political Science. Though raised in Missisauga he proudly identifies himself as a ‘northerner’.
Andrej brands himself as a “Sir John A. MacDonald Tory” and is a staunch Monarchist.
Committed to his community Andrej firmly believes in the value of volunteerism and philanthropy and consistently works to invest in the people and environment around him.
Lighthearted and inclusive Andrej sees the glass as always full; half is H20 and half is O2!
